Honoring the arrival of a full moon has become a happy tradition in our home. (And sometimes a naked one.) Rather than whine and wail against its reputation for disruption, I choose to embrace its reminder to be mindful and careful with ourselves and our fellow humans. This is the full Wolf Moon, and is said to be especially emotional, as if we needed more emotion. I’m going with the flow for the next week, not paddling against the current, not riling the feathers. And to welcome all the magnificent moon energy, I’m setting a pleasant scene and atmosphere in the home by simmering a pot of protective and calming aromatics – some eucalyptus from a recent dinner party bouquet, some citrus, a little bit of lavender, a couple of peppercorns, and a drop of vanilla. Creating an inviting environment for the full moon’s arrival establishes a happy and pleasant hearth – which is always a welcome circumstance, full moon or not. Also, it smells delicious as it simmers quietly on the stove – working wonderfully against the dry air of winter while scenting the space with its lovely aroma.
Simmer love, simmer hope, simmer health… simmer for the moon, simmer for the magic.
