He said one of my favorite quotes right after I stopped drinking two years ago: we were out at the movies doing our usual concession stand shenanigans and he remarked, “All these years I thought you were just drunk when you were saying these things but it turns out you’re just obnoxious.” That sort of keen observation is what makes him a Dazzler, and this Christmas jacket confirms it.

Dazzler of the Day: Sean McLaughlin
Today marks his birthday, so there’s no better time to crown Sean McLaughlin as Dazzler of the Day. He’s one of Albany’s most active community supporters and organizers, and I’ve long held that he should run for local office given his love for the area and his tireless efforts at making it a better place. His networking prowess knows no equal, and if you want something done he’s the first person many people seek to help make it happen. Above and beyond these testaments, however, he’s simply a good guy and friend – and good guys are getting harder and harder to come by these days. Happy birthday Sean – and many happy returns of the day!

Dazzler of the Day: Colin Donnell
A welcome recommendation from my childhood friend Elizabeth, this is Colin Donnell, a Broadway and television luminary who has helped raise funds for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital as well as working to improve Broadway working conditions. That sort of behind the scenes valor is what makes someone a true Dazzler of the Day.

Dazzler of the Day: Jake Wesley Rogers
My friend JoAnn has exquisite taste – not only in fashion and interior design, but in music and art, so when she alerted me to the fabulousness that is Jake Wesley Rogers, he became an instant Dazzler of the Day. Rogers is that wonderful mix of music and fashion maven who knows how to put on a show. Dazzling is practically an understatement, but it’s the best I can give. Check out his website for further sparkle and pizzazz.

Dazzler of the Day: Michael Bublé
Airing tonight on NBC, ‘Michael Bublé’s Christmas in the City’ is destined to be a holiday musical treat, and so it is unto this night that Michael Bublé is christened Dazzler of the Day. Day or night, his musical talent has no equal, and his easy-going charm and charisma (as seen in one of my favorite songs by him) are the perfect accompaniment to seasonal merriment. Check out his website for all his holiday releases.

Dazzler of the Day: Ashley Day
It was his tapping prowess in the recent revival of ’42nd Street’ that was broadcast on PBS the other night that sold me on Ashley Day, hence this Dazzler of the Day crowning. Many of us have been missing the live theatrical experience that was so sadly curtailed with COVID, so seeing this on television was the next best thing. It reminded me of the magic that can only be found on stage and in person. As for Mr. Day, his dancing and singing skills stole every scene he was in, and his talents more than earn this Dazzler honor.

Dazzler of the Day: Drew Barrymore
Being the same age as Drew Barrymore, I’d always watched her in her early film roles and felt happy to see someone that I could recognize, at least as far as being a kid growing up in the 80’s went. When I watched ‘E.T’ in the theater with my Mom and brother, I related more to her than anyone else. A later role on ‘Irreconcilable Differences’ further cemented my love for her. Through the years, many of us have watched as she went through the treacherous journey that a child star often goes through, but Barrymore bucked the odds and overcame her difficulties. Her current talk show is a breath of fresh air, and brings her exuberant quirkiness to a larger audience in need of such good vibes, hence this honor of Dazzler of the Day. My absolute all-time favorite of Barrymore’s performances is her unexpectedly stunning portrayal of Little Edie in ‘Grey Gardens’. It’s the ultimate blending of star and role, resulting in nothing short of an artistic smash.

Dazzler of the Day: Ana Gasteyer
Today marks the start of a series of concert dates for Ana Gasteyer in support of her festive album ‘Sugar and Booze’ which should be the new holiday classic that everyone is playing this year and beyond. Gasteyer earns her first Dazzler of the Day crowning thanks to that seasonal sparkle, but also thanks to her impressive body of work that ranges from stage to television to music and more. Check out her website here for more concert dates.

Dazzler of the Day: Kal Penn
Anyone who can be both a staff member in the Barack Obama Administration and star in the ‘Harold and Kumar’ movie franchise has got to be dazzling, and so it is that Kal Penn earns his first Dazzler of the Day, thanks to those storied roles, and quite a few more. His latest project is a memoir, ‘You Can’t Be Serious’, in which he finally reveals an 11-year relationship with his now-fiance Josh. Dazzling is indeed a serious business.

Dazzler of the Day: Steve Barnes
Truth, intelligence and artistry rarely combine in the work of a journalist, yet that’s precisely what Steve Barnes has been able to accomplish in a quarter of a century working at the Times Union. Reporting on the food and art scenes in Albany, Barnes has been keeping things interesting and compulsively-readable for decades. His voice is as much a part of Albany’s ever-evolving history as Nipper or the Egg. He doesn’t mince words as much as celebrate and honor them, even when they must be cutting and cold in their precision. His ‘Table Hopping’ blog remains the best guide to what’s really going on in Albany. Today he earns this Dazzler of the Day, because even when I’m asking him a ridiculous question such as how the downtown Albany streets look after a winter storm he always takes the time and consideration to answer.

Dazzler of the Day: Jeff Goldblum
Sometime all it takes to win the Dazzler of the Day is a spectacular suit, as evidenced by Jeff Goldblum’s recent appearance on ‘The Stephen Colbert Show’. That alone earns him this Dazzler of the Day honor, which he can add to this previous appearance as Hunk of the Day. A man who clearly loves an animal print is a good man in my estimation.

Dazzler of the Day: Mr. T
Any proper child of the 80’s fit this iconic catchphrase into their lexicon at some point: “I pity the fool…” It came from Mr. T, the rough and tumble tough-guy with a heart of gold from ‘The A-Team’. Today he gets crowned Dazzler of the Day if only for his recent Twitter post regarding his recent COVID booster. Any time we get some reasonable act of humanity from a celebrity feels like something to be celebrated. Anyway, here’s to Mr. T, the ultimate Pitier of Fools.

Dazzler of the Day: Alicia Silverstone
She may be best remembered for her iconic personification of 90’s glory as Cher in ‘Clueless’ (where she sizzled with on-screen chemistry with recently-crowned Dazzler of the Day/Sexiest Man Alive Paul Rudd). Today is her day, as she steps into the Dazzler crown, thanks to her still-winning charm and personality, as evidenced by the sort of social media glory that comes from palling around with Christian Siriano.

Dazzler of the Day: Paul Rudd
He was laying the groundwork for Hunk of the Day territory with this naked-but-for-some-pixelation post, but since that never happened Paul Rudd is our Dazzler of the Day, thanks to his recent crowning as ‘Sexiest Man Alive‘ by People Magazine. Rudd has been a consistently impressive actor, with a sly, under-the-radar technique that absolutely slays, particularly in humorous roles. Any guy who can make us laugh is indeed sexy, and so that honor is not as far-fetched as some detractors seem to think. Regardless of whether he’s your cup of tea for sexiness, he’s definitely a Dazzler.

Dazzler of the Day: Chella Man
With a background as rich and varied as Chella Man’s, it’s no wonder he is proving to be an exceptional human being. His social media bio lists him as Deaf, trans-masculine, Chinese and Jewish. He is more importantly an author and artist, known for his work ‘Continuum’, as well as numerous other endeavors so brilliantly illuminated on his website here. Today he is named Dazzler of the Day for so proudly being himself without apology.
